Drew is an Ojibway from the Curve Lake Reserve in central Ontario.

He is an award-winning playwright, scriptwriter, journalist, filmmaker and columnist and has been described as "one of Canada's leading Native dramatists" (Montreal Gazette). Drew has more than 20 books in publication, and his plays have garnered such prestigious awards as the Chalmers, the Dora, the Canadian Authors Award for Drama and Drew was also nominated for the Governor General's Literary Award for Best Drama. Drew has lectured in 16 countries around the world on Native culture, humour, sexuality and identity. His television credits include The Beachcomers, Street Legal and North of 60. His most recent book, a novel for teenagers about an Ojibway vampire titled The Night Wanderer was nominated for several prestigious book awards.
